Playing with ideas around our constant use of digital communications, I had assembled the structure (without the beetle) some time ago. It felt like a sat-phone or some type of vintage scifi transponder — so much so, I was tempted to hold it up to my ear. When forming the antenna of this beetle, that structure seemed to pair well with creature.

• This is one of my newest explorations into non-cast creatures.
• This insect is mostly assembled with solder with a bit of grey epoxy on the underside to secure some parts.
• This legs and antenna were fabricated from brass wire.
• I fabricated the masonite, brass, and acrylic.
• The silver plate with the square holes came from a vintage adding machine — the silver antenna, which the creature is attempting to climb, is mixture of spare camera parts and hardware.
• The insect is removable in the event it ever needs repaired.
• The brass will eventually patina. The steel base block (a cutoff scrap from a metal store) is lacquered. • To continue to protect the metal part from rust, a thin layer of museum wax (or other metal-protecting wax) can be applied to the metal parts of this piece.
• Comes with certificate of authenticity.
